The 2020 rosé, made from 100% Pinot Noir off of the Argetsinger Vineyard's limestone soils is a show-stopper.
Elegant, translucent pink in color, the wine exhibits white fruits, fresh rose petals, lemon zest and mineral notes. Mouthwatering acidity and layers of bright red fruit provide a balanced and complex finish.
We make our rosé as part of a dedicated rose program, and our methods are often misunderstood because of the different use of the term "saignée", when it's normally performed for rosé in the USA. The traditional French saignée method is to purposely make a rosé by bleeding off pink juice that’s already had contact with the Pinot skins and seeds in our vats, without the intention of using leftovers in our vats to concentrate a Pinot Noir wine. We believe it creates a beautiful tensioned rosé wine when done with our Finger Lakes pinot noir grapes, from the Argetsinger vineyard.
90 points, Wine Advocate:
"The 2020 Pinot Noir Rosé, sourced from Argetsinger vineyard, is dry and comes in at 13.2% alcohol. Refined and sophisticated in its silky demeanor, this still shows off fine concentration and flavor. Although the expression of fruit is not as obvious in this rosé, this manages to represent Pinot Noir well too. It is even a little understated overall, not particularly an attention-getter but more of a wine you'll actually want to drink. In its youth, this seems pretty terrific and one of the best values in this report. Hopefully, this bright and lively Pinot Noir can hold a few years, but I doubt anyone will care enough to do so."
